Important Tax Update – Beginning Nov 1 EVENTIM will commence collection and reporting of taxes.

  • Updated

If you owe or pay taxes relative to ticketing receipts, please read carefully:

Beginning November 1, 2026, EVENTIM will calculate, collect, and remit applicable Transaction Taxes on taxable ticket purchases and other taxable items processed through EVENTIM. This important change will involve moving our promoters and the EVENTIM US business into compliance with Marketplace Facilitator requirements.

Why now?  EVENTIM has determined that given the growth of our US Ticketing Business and the evolution of Marketplace Facilitator regulations, that now is the appropriate time to make the change.

Depending on the jurisdiction, these taxes may include sales, use, admissions, amusement, entertainment, parking, and similar transaction-based taxes.

For transactions on which EVENTIM administers tax:

  • EVENTIM will calculate the applicable tax using relevant transaction information, which may include the event location, purchaser location, and the type of ticket, fee, add-on, or other item(s) purchased.
  • Applicable tax will be shown to the purchaser before the purchase is completed and collected as part of the purchaser’s payment.
  • Promoters will no longer have any input as to how taxes are calculated for their events. EVENTIM will be solely responsible for the tax calculation based upon the product type sold and the jurisdiction in which the event takes place.
  • EVENTIM will remit the collected tax to the appropriate taxing authority, acting as the marketplace facilitator or on the promoter’s behalf, as applicable.
  • EVENTIM will identify these amounts as “Taxes” in the promoter live stats, promoter facing reports, etc.  However, settlement statements shall no longer disclose tax as such amounts collected on or after November 1, 2026, shall be identified as “marketplace- collected tax”, removed from promoter statements and remitted directly by EVENTIM.
  • For refunds and chargebacks that occur on or after November 1, 2026, EVENTIM will adjust the respective EVENTIM tax reporting as required. If a taxable transaction prior to November 1, 2026, has a refund, EVENTIM will apply the respective refund value on the promoter statements.
  • Chargebacks will be managed and reported in the same way on or after November 1, 2026, as before November 1, 2026 – as to appearance on promoter statements.
  • Promoters should not separately charge, collect, or remit the same tax on the same transaction when EVENTIM has identified it as a “marketplace-collected tax”.

What Promoters remain responsible for

EVENTIM’s collection and remittance of marketplace-collected taxes does not eliminate every tax obligation a promoter may have. Promoters remain responsible for:

  • Providing complete and accurate event locations, ticket and item descriptions, prices, tax classifications, and exemption information;
  • To be clear, events shall not be deemed exempt; only purchasers can be deemed exempt by providing the required exemption documentation;
  • Maintaining any registrations and filing any returns or informational reports that applicable law continues to require;
  • Collecting and remitting taxes on transactions or tax types that EVENTIM does not identify as marketplace-collected taxes (i.e. promoter sourced sales that occur off the EVENTIM platform, direct at venue or through associated partners/vendors); and
  • Handling applicable taxes on sales made outside EVENTIM or through payment methods or sales channels that are not covered by EVENTIM’s tax-collection service, including: any direct cash sales at box-office (that do not occur on the EVENTIM platform), off EVENTIM platform sales - including food & beverage, merch, admission, parking, etc. as well as promoter merchant account sales (using square on-site, for example), independently processed transactions, or other excluded transactions.

If you’re a promoter that files taxes on a quarterly basis (i.e. you would normally file taxes associated with events from October - December 31, 2026), you will need to file a partial return for 4Q 2026 taxes, covering the October period, only.

When the Change Takes Effect

This change applies to purchases, refunds and disputes completed on or after November 1, 2026, at midnight PST. Orders completed before that time will not be affected. The change applies to all applicable sales for both existing and newly created promoter events.

Before October 31, 2026, please review the following information in your EVENTIM account:

  • Event and venue addresses;
  • Ticket types, add-ons, merchandise, parking, and other items offered for sale; and
  • Your payment-processing configuration.

No separate action is required to collect or remit a tax that EVENTIM identifies as a marketplace-collected tax. You remain responsible for reviewing your reports and understanding any tax obligations that fall outside EVENTIM’s collection service.

In parallel with the deployment of the new tax module that this communication relates to, promoters may notice a small change in the way EVENTIM’s service fees (i.e percentage-based customer fees calculated on the ticket price subtotal as well as processing fees) are calculated.

FAQs

  • What is changing?

Beginning November 1, 2026, EVENTIM will calculate, collect, and remit applicable Transaction Taxes on taxable purchases processed through EVENTIM in covered jurisdictions and payment flows. EVENTIM will collect the tax from the purchaser at checkout and remit it to the appropriate taxing authority.

  • Why make the change now?

EVENTIM has determined that given the growth of our US Ticketing Business and the evolution of Marketplace Facilitator regulations, that now is the appropriate time to make the change.

  • Who pays the tax?

The purchaser pays applicable tax as part of the purchase price.

  • What taxes may be included?

Depending on the jurisdiction and transaction, Transaction Taxes may include sales, use, admissions, amusement, entertainment, excise, parking, and similar taxes.

  • Which transactions are covered?

EVENTIM will administer tax only for the jurisdictions, transaction types, and payment flows included in the program. Covered transactions are online and box office sales, refunds and chargebacks that occur on the EVENTIM platform. The following transactions are not covered: all direct sales to consumers (for admission, parking, food and beverage as well as merch, etc.) that are not on the EVENTIM platform.

  • How is the tax rate determined?

EVENTIM will use transaction information and applicable tax rules to determine the tax treatment and rate. Relevant information may include the event or venue location, purchaser location, item type, ticket price, and fees. Promoters must keep event and item information accurate and current.

  • Do promoters need to collect or remit the same tax?

No. A promoter should not separately collect or remit the same tax on the same transaction when EVENTIM has identified the amount as a marketplace-collected tax. This avoids duplicate collection or payment.

  • Do promoters still have tax obligations?

Yes. EVENTIM’s collection and remittance will likely NOT eliminate registration, return-filing, informational-reporting, gross-sales-reporting, recordkeeping, or other obligations. Promoters remain responsible for transactions and tax types that EVENTIM does not identify as marketplace-collected taxes.

If you’re a promoter that files taxes on a quarterly basis, you will need to file a partial return for 4Q 2026 taxes, covering the October period, only.

  • How will marketplace collected taxes appear in reports and settlements?

EVENTIM will identify marketplace-collected taxes as “Tax” (consistent with current displays). These amounts will be calculated, collected, remitted, and reported directly by EVENTIM and therefore excluded from promoter settlements. Promoter facing reports will continue to display “Tax” as in the past for informational purposes.

  • What if a promoter or event is tax-exempt?

Tax-exempt or nonprofit status does not automatically make every ticket sale exempt.

  • What happens when a taxable order is refunded, canceled, or charged back?

EVENTIM will refund, reverse, or adjust marketplace-collected taxes as permitted or required by law and will reflect the adjustment in the promoter’s reports or future settlements. This includes full and partial-refunds.  Chargebacks will reflect no change in its respective reporting/treatment on or after November 1, 2026

Additionally, EVENTIM will refund, reverse or adjust any applicable tax resulting from refunds or chargebacks issued after November 1st, 2026, for any orders placed before November 1st, 2026

  • Are prior orders affected?

Orders completed before November 1, 2026, will not be recalculated or changed. Purchases completed on or after November 1, 2026, will follow the new tax treatment.
